Hi guys
Well good news....all the hard work paid off! The club want me to join, so I have upped my stakes. I am practicing more and more now - I have a couple of sprains (mainly in my wrist *sad face*)
I have been looking around for ages for some grips from Carlton, alas, they were boring and either black or white. So I decided to go with Karakal (so I know I have a Carlton Racket/Yehlex Bag and now Karakal grips...but....so what?!
- also nice and cheap off of Ebay!!)
I received them in the post today, having a day off was giving me grief as I had nothing to do, so I settled down and had a go at re-gripping!....
I know its a little bit uneven, the finishing tape they provided was pants, so I used some insulating tape and sliced down the middle making it thinner ( I had a look at the how the original grip had been applied to the racket) and found it ALOTeasier to apply to the top of the handle. It took a while and the cogs of my brain were proper churning, but in the end I got it
Due to the nature of my work, half term time means we are quiet at work ( I work for a food supply company) they offered half day holidays, I requested and they agreed so I came home at midday!
I had an awful nights sleep last night and I think I am coming down with something nasty, so I felt a nice nap would be in order, however just as I got settled Parcel Force turned up with a big box....confused I read the sender and was tres excited when it said 'Yehlex UK' my amazing Pink and White badminton bag had showed up 2 days earlier than I had expected! I put all my bits and bobs in and already feel more professional ;) funny what a simple bit of kit can do for the mind!
Well as some of you may know I have started club/court badminton after being a casual garden/no rules/no scoring knowledge etc. Its been a BIG change and lots to learn, however I am slowly getting there.
I attended a casual session at my local sports centre, there was a coach there who wanted to help me more, so I attended another session yesterday. She really helped. I sometimes don't move around enough and when I do move its not very quick and kinda clumsy. She taught me lots and even the basics like relaxing my hold on my racket (hence the lack of wrist ache which I am soooo use to)
The result? I ended up moving so much more around the court, I felt more power in my shots and I got shots which I didn't think I could because I moved back and moved quicker. I can feel myself becoming more consistent and I love it! Plus my new racket was freaking awesome and helped me get the distance even on weak shots.
